CORME – COSTA DA MORTE (A CORUÑA)

Here is one of Galicia’s hidden treasures, fiercely guarded by the sea. At Punta do Roncudo, on cliffs lashed by relentless waves, the best goose barnacles in the world can be found. It is also here that one can find the white crosses surrounding the lighthouse, reminding us of the goose barnacle gatherers or percebeiros who lost their lives below it. At the heart of the Costa da Morte, the ocean gives a small respite and becomes the Corme e Laxe Estuary or Ría.

In Corme, the colorfully painted fishing houses are striking, as is the nearby enigmatic Pedra da Serpe dragon stone. And to relax, there are the beaches of Balarés and Soesto, the latter at the mouth of the estuary. Towards the inner estuary, the sea engulfs the Anllóns River, leaving an estuary with a sand spit of more than 2 km, a paradise for loons, geese, herons and shelducks.
