The Adcor Foundation and Asperga took part in the workshop “Rhythms of Light, Cameraless Cinema for Inclusion”. This activity is backed by the Emalsca Foundation and it was held on 30th and 31st May at the Seoane Foundation.

The Xpresa social inclusion film workshop has been part of the Mostra de Cinema Periférico festival’s pre-programme since 2018. This is its eighth year and again, it has been made possible thanks to support from the Emalcsa Foundation and its programme Accessible and Inclusive Culture, in which users with diverse abilities from two groups take part.
The activity, was held on 30th and 31st May at the Seoane Foundation. The first day was with the Adcor Foundation, dedicated to improving the lives of dependent adults. In the second session it was the turn of Asperga, the Galician Asperger’s Association. Both were able to develop their creative potential with the help of Deneb Martos, a visual artist specialising in cameraless filmmaking work and photochemical techniques. Martos’ work has been exhibited at the KONTAKTE ’17 Festival (Berlin), FILMADRID, and other venues.

Under the title “Rhythms of Light, Cameraless Cinema for Inclusion”, Martos puts forward an inclusive artistic experience through cameraless experimental cinema. Using accessible materials and adaptable techniques, the participants work with found 16 mm and 35 mm footage to create small visual pieces. The result is loops of colour and rhythm brought to life by the projector, as well as film collages embedded in slide frames, turning each fragment into a luminous micro-story. At the end of each session, the resulting pieces were screened.

In addition to fostering social inclusion through art and collective creation, this workshop encouraged personal expression through non-verbal languages, stimulating coordination, fine motor skills and visual perception. It was organised by the eSe8 Cultural Association, which also runs the festival, seeking to provide a safe, respectful and open space for experimentation, while enjoying cinema as a sensorial, playful and creative experience.
