The Tower of Hercules!! Built by the Romans in the first century to replace fires lit along the hilltops overlooking the “Costa da Morte” to warn mariners of the dangerous shoals. It was cutting edge but the Romans died. Their structure remained but fell into disrepair. Many centuries later when shipping picks up again the tower is restored! A massive lens is installed that floats on liquid mercury and blasts the light from an oil lamp 10 miles into the sea! For 1799 that was high tech and pure magic and saved the souls of countless sailors. But times change. GPS and digital systems have altered the way we live… the way we navigate the oceans and outer space… the way we collect and store images… and increasingly, the way we remember. Shot on 16mm over the course of 3 years in and around a lighthouse in Eastern Canada and presented in the shadow of the oldest beacon on the planet, There is Light at the Top of the Tower!! is a celebration of the beauty of early analog technologies and of their spectral magic. A sonorización da peza correrá a cargo de Torso, o proxecto de música electrónica de Ibán Pérez, multiinstrumentista galego (The Gentle Wire, Fee Rega, Tut Vu Vu etc.) e dono do estudo de gravación Terraforma. A música de Pérez, cargado con sintetizadores analóxicos, caixas de ritmos e un secuenciador, está marcada por unha rítmica forte e melodías cruzadas que van desde paisaxes sonoras con influencias do cinema dos 70 e 80 a un electro intenso e sempre evolutivo. Desta volta, escoitaremos o lado máis reservado e calmo do son de Torso a acompañar as imaxes de Price.
