The award, presented at the Antonio Pérez Foundation in Cuenca, went to PEGA Estudio’s designs for the XV edition of the (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico de A Coruña (Spain).

CINEMANÍA presented the Cruz Novillo Awards to the best film posters of 2024, which this year celebrated its second edition. This award, born to value the best works in this area of graphic design so important within the film industry, wants to reward both the creators (designers, illustrators) and those responsible for commissioning them (distributors, producers and film festivals). It also pays tribute to José María Cruz Novillo (Cuenca, 1936), a brilliant designer and author of several of the most iconic posters of Spanish cinema.

Joaquín Reyes and Neil Kellerhouse were the winning designers for the best Spanish and international film poster, while the first CINEMANÍA 2024 Cruz Novillo Award for the best film festival poster in Spain in 2024 went to PEGA Estudio’s designs for the XV edition of the (S8) Mostra internacional de cinema periférico de A Coruña and was received by its director, Ana Domínguez.

This very complete work follows a line marked by the direction of the festival for an event that took the idea of the tarot as a background argument for the theme of this year’s edition, which fitted perfectly with the tribute that the (S8) paid in its last edition to the filmmaker Kenneth Anger. The festival’s image is inspired by tarot cards (The Magician, The Lovers, The Force and The Wheel of Fortune), symbols that connect with Anger’s almost esoteric interest in magic and mysticism.

The award ceremony was held at the Antonio Pérez Foundation in Cuenca and was sponsored by Turismo Castilla-La Mancha, and the support of the Cruz más Cruz studio. This second year, in addition to the two original categories: best poster of Spanish cinema and international cinema, this new award was added to the best poster of a film festival in Spain, which, in its first edition, took the (S8) Mostra internacional de cinema periférico to A Coruña.

The winners emerged from the meeting and deliberation of the jury of this second edition of the Cruz Novillo Awards, a team formed by Pepe Cruz Novillo (architect and designer, son of Cruz Novillo, in charge of the Cruz más Cruz studio), Mike Villanueva (director of Castilla-La Mancha Film Commission), Carmen Martín (art director of CINEMANÍA), David García-Asenjo (architect, writer and cultural disseminator), Andrea G. Bermejo (editor-in-chief of CINEMANÍA) and Carlos Marañón (director of CINEMANÍA).
