This year’s Desbordamientos ends with a party: John Porter will be putting it on the screen with his Super 8 films, along with four of his legendary performances. Firstly, there will be a selection of films blending formal creativity, ingenuity and humour. They are films to watch and comment aloud with the filmmaker: while Porter projects, he also narrates and interacts with his audience. We will also see the performances Shootout with Rebecca (1983), which is a western shootout whose duellers are the film and the filmmaker; in Revolving Restaurant (1981), Porter climbs into a short-circuited, revolving panoramic restaurant; Animal in Motion (1980) has echoes of Muybridge from an intermittent career; and finally, there is his celebrated performance Scanning 8 (2016), in which Porter carries the projector on his shoulder and magically transforms it into a camera before our very eyes.
