PAOLA GUZMÁN FIGUEROA

GENERATIONAL TRACES

DESBORDAMIENTOS

Fundación Luis Seoane | Friday June 5th | 11:30 pm | Free entry to all venues until full capacity. It will not be possible to enter the venues after the screening has started.

The work of the Colombian visual artist Paola Guzmán Figueroa moves around the territories of intergenerational memory and feminist narratives, taking on board personal and collective experiences to reflect on identity, transculturality and the body as an archive. In this performance, she uses three 16 mm projectors and a piece of sound to take us through an immersive experience that she herself describes as follows:

Generational Traces explores the ritualistic nature of memory, care and migration through the lens of four generations of women in my family. In this work, 16 mm film is literally entangled, as I explore the process of producing photograms on analogue film using my own hair. These abstract explorations are intercut with performance documentation filmed together with my grandmother, mother, sister and nieces, alongside self-shot footage in the sea and lakes. Waterways act as a connecting element between these scenes, alluding to the role that water and oceans have played in our journeys, travels and migrations.” (Paola Guzmán Figueroa)
