Last October, we finally made a long-awaited project a reality: the BAICC on the Road Program, which marked the Canadian premiere of several Spanish-Canadian co-productions resulting from our BAICC Film Creation Artistic Residencies.
Throughout the eight years that the residency has been running, the beneficiaries were welcomed at LIFT – Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto, where they made the works that were later premiered at the (S8) in A Coruña. Until now, none of these films had been presented where they were created: in Canada. Finally, last October, these premieres were able to take place in Toronto with some of their authors in attendance.
The program included two sessions: one of films (with Relieves by Tono Mejuto, 2018; El sonido de las imágenes by Laura Moreno, 2024; Latitude Mesh by Agnès Hayden, 2024; and Propiedades de una esfera paralela by Valentina Alvarado, 2020) and another session of film performance (with TORONTONTERO by Álvaro Feldman, 2023 and TORTUGA [pasaje cromático #4] by Brenda Boyer, 2025, screened by their authors). These sessions were a great success with the public, who filled Cinecycle, the legendary counterculture space at Toronto, thanks to the collaboration of the Canadian Filmmaker Distribution Centre (CFMDC), which hosted these activities.

n addition to these screenings, meetings were held with filmmakers and programmers at TIFF LIGHTBOX (as part of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Wavelengths program), at Innis College – Cinema Studies of Toronto, and with students and faculty at TMU – Toronto Metropolitan University. BAICC on the road received a more than warm welcome and highlighted just how much our extensive collaboration with the Canadian community has resulted in a second home for (S8). It also showed how this collaboration is serving as a driving force for a generation that is absorbing certain practices and knowledge acquired in our residences. A breeding ground of which we are a part and which has been shaping a renewed experimental film scene in our country that is attracting the attention of what was once the leading community in international avant-garde cinema.

The success of the program also brought the satisfaction of seeing that (S8) and our BAICC residencies are effectively serving to promote our cinema internationally.
BAICC– International Artistic Residencies for Film Creation are co-organized with Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and LIFT-Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto and are part of eSe8_LAB, our space for training, promotion, support, research, and development of film projects.
BAICC on the road was supported by AC/E, AECID, and the Spanish Embassy in Canada.
