Coinciding with the presentation of the XV (S8) 7 places were called for this workshop that took place over 7 days, between July 28 and August 3, 2024 in the fishermen’s guild of Corme. The places were filled by participants from Galicia (4), Asturias (1), Cantabria (1) and even Ireland (1).

The workshop dealt with the handmade elaboration of films in 16 mm and Super 8, in a collective way and at the same time in an independent and autonomous way. The participants were introduced to the tools and technical and aesthetic possibilities of celluloid. Each of the participants put into practice each of the steps of the process: from the set-up and handling of the Bolex 16mm and Super 8 cameras, experimentation with different techniques and filming speeds during the day and at night, to the developing and drying of the films, including the threading of the spirals in the developing tanks. The whole process was entirely accompanied and supervised by the teacher. It was a unique experience in which they were able to make films with their own hands.

This creative action took place in a unique natural environment that favored concentration, exchange of ideas and more direct contact between art and society. In addition, as part of the activity, two excursions were made to the most emblematic places in the area, guided by the actor and writer Suso Lista.

At the conclusion of the workshop, a public screening was held for the neighborhood of Corme, protagonists of what was filmed during those days in the village and its surroundings. A film-performance carried out by the authors, who, in this way, were able to experience the last step of the creative process. The whole initiative was applauded and celebrated, as well as communicated by the local and regional press. It was undoubtedly an activity to be repeated in the coming years.

The workshop was led by Álvaro Feldman, filmmaker, visual artist and founder of ACME Obscura, one of the few laboratories in Spain dedicated to photochemical film.  His practice explores the possibilities of working with filmic material. He carried out projects such as the laboratory Fuera de Campo in Seville and he was a professor at LAV, in Madrid. His films were exhibited at the Anthology Film Archives (New York, USA), and the (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cine Periférico (A Coruña, Spain), the Experiments in Cinema festival (Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA) the exf f. f. tage des experimentellen films Frankfurt (Germany), in the Cervantes Institute’s online program “Arrebato en celuloide” at Xcéntric-CCCB (Barcelona), at Tramallol (Seville) or the Palacio del Almirante (Granada).

In 2023, his project Torontontero, was selected in the 7th call for BAICC residencies to be developed at the Liaison of Independent Filmmakers (LIFT) in Canada and, later that year, presented at the (S8) Mostra de Cine Periférico. His films are: La tarara (2021), Soleares para el Popeye (2022), Diorama (2022), Torontontero (2023) and Aka y Rita (2023).This first edition of the Analog Film Workshop in Corme is part of eSe8_LAB, our space for training, promotion, support, research and development of film projects and was funded by Agadic- Agencia Gallega de las Industrias Culturales through its line of aid to laboratories, incubators and residencies for audiovisual projects.
