For the second year, eSe8_LAB is organizing a workshop in July dedicated to analog film, led this time by visual artist Deneb Martos. Titled “Cameraless Film and Photography: From the Organic to the Mechanical,” it will bring together a group of seven participants for a week in the village of Corme, on the Costa da Morte (Coast of Death), in a transformative and collaborative experience centered on celluloid.
DETAILS
Group: 7 vacancies.
Duration: 7 days. From July 07 to 13, 2025.
Registration: Until June 16, 2025.
Cost: 800€. Includes accommodation, food, a studio-workshop and all the necessary materials.
This week-long workshop is an extension of the (S8) educational program, which in this case travels to Galicia’s Costa da Morte for a unique training program exploring the vast and fascinating realm of cameraless film and photography. Taught by Deneb Martos, it will present dynamics to go further than technical issues, facilitating a collective work to connect with the surrounding environment.
A practical and poetic immersion in the possibilities of photosensitive formats
During the workshop, we will explore historical and contemporary techniques of cameraless filmmaking, focusing on two core areas of work: the flat print technique in the darkroom and the creation of water rayograms at night, by the sea. We will also explore the intersection of alchemy and visual creation, practicing with colored chemigrames, phytograms, and sustainable developers prepared from locally collected plants.

CORME – COSTA DA MORTE (A CORUÑA)
The analog film workshop in Corme is part of eSe8_LAB, our space for training, promotion, support, research, and development of film projects. It is supported by Agadic, the Agency for Cultural Industries of the Xunta de Galicia. Its first edition was fully booked, including international attendance, and was highly praised by all participants, who emphasized the attractiveness of the chosen location, in addition to the training and creative aspects.
A unique natural and cultural setting for an experience connected to the territory
Corme is a fishing village in the heart of the Costa da Morte, a place on the Atlantic shore where all the power and excitement of Galicia’s seafaring culture are concentrated. With cliffs like Punta Roncudo, battered relentlessly by the waves, this is home to the world’s finest barnacles, and the white crosses surrounding its lighthouse commemorate the percebeiros (barnacle fishermen) who lost their lives collecting them at its feet.
Here, the coastline is capricious and goes along towards the mainland, giving room to the Anllóns river, which forms the estuary on whose shores is sheltered the village of Corme. Nearby is the enigmatic Pedra da Serpe and we can also enjoy the beaches of Balarés and Soesto, perfect for relaxing beside a 2-km stretch of sand, a paradise for loons, geese, herons, and shelducks.
Corme is an unique setting next to the Atlantic Ocean
