We are sharing a photo gallery and a video summarising a truly memorable edition, which was characterised by new discoveries and a sense of community centred around avant-garde cinema

Barely ten days have passed since we bid farewell to the 17th edition of the Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico, and the impressions left by the festival on the artists, the audience and the organising team remain very much alive. This year we have shared great artistic moments, but also deeply human ones, in which the barriers between creators and audience have dissolved,, creating an atmosphere of enjoyment around the art of cinema and a passion for the projected light.

The magic of Jeanne Liotta, the radical honesty of John Porter, the artistic vision of Els Van Riel, Bruno Varela’s gritty cinema, the commitment of the Kinothek Asta Nielsen, the premieres at Sinais, Desbordamientos… It has been overwhelming, and although the best part is experiencing it first-hand, we want to share this video capturing some of the Mostra’s most special moments. We’re also publishing a full gallery of the incredible photographs taken during the festival by our colleagues Andrea Morandeira and Andrea Rodríguez. You can view them on the website

Organising a Mostra like (S8) is a massive undertaking. Firstly, because of its firm commitment to analogue cinema, and secondly, because of its curatorial approach, which seeks to create artistic dialogues between the programme’s content whilst always prioritising the audience’s experience. All this presents challenges, but the public’s response (this year, over eight thousand people attended the sessions), the generosity and commitment of the artists, and the support of the professionals who back us, make it all worthwhile and fill us with energy for the next edition.

We must not forget that this is made possible thanks to the collaboration of various institutions, starting with A Coruña City Council, which sponsors the Mostra through its Department of Culture and Tourism and recognises how (S8) places the city at the heart of the international film avant-garde. Further support comes from the Galician Agency for Cultural Industries (Agadic) of the Regional Government of Galicia, the Provincial Council of A Coruña, the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), Acción Cultural Española (AC/E) and the Luis Seoane Foundation. To all of them, thank you.

And so we bid farewell to the 17th Mostra, but (S8)’s activities continue throughout the year with programmes in museums and at festivals, new tours featuring works promoted by the festival, and plenty of new developments that we’ll be keeping you updated on. Until then, have a great summer and enjoy the eclipse on 12 August.
