Latitude Mesh by Agnès Hayden and In a certain light (Con cierta luz) by Nicole Remy are two of the projects that were promoted last year by eSe8_LAB and which will see their world premiere in the next (S8) 2024. The former was selected for the BAICC 2023-24 Residencies to be held at LIFT (Canada), while the latter was given the eSe8_LAB Award for Creation, and was thus able to travel to NanoLAB (Australia) to be tutored by the prestigious filmmakers Richard Tuohy and Dianna Barrie. Today, we wish to share these interviews, which capture their unforgettable experience in the two residences.

INTERVIEW WITH AGNÈS HAYDEN: 7TH PARTICIPANT IN THE BAICC ARTISTIC RESIDENCES 2023/24
Latitude Mesh by Agnès Hayden was the project chosen in the last call for BAICC, the International Artistic Residency for Cinematographic Creation 2023-24 promoted by (S8) together with AC/E and LIFT.
Agnès Hayden studied at ECAM, specialising in Cinematography at the Madrid Film Institute, where she researched the possibilities for photography in the medium, and completed a master’s degree at LAV. In September 2023, Hayden travelled to Toronto to work at the LIFT (Liaison of Independent Filmmakers of Toronto) facilities on her innovative project concentrating on research into artisanal photochemical emulsion.
On ending the residency, here she is now sharing the work she did there: the result of a dialogue between chemicals and her brushstrokes of homemade emulsion and light. It was a deep study into the physical magnitudes of film, wonderfully expressed in this interview, which leaves us eager for the world premiere at the 15th (S8) Mostra Internacional de Cinema Periférico, that will be held in A Coruña from May 31st to June 9th.

INTERVIEW WITH NICOLE REMY: WINNER OF THE eSe8_LAB CREATION AWARD AND BENEFICIARY OF INPUT 2023
In a certain light (Con cierta luz), the project by Nicole Remy, was one of the six selected in last year’s INPUT, our space for Advice on Cinematographic Projects in Development. Tutored by Albert Alcoz, a filmmaker, researcher and programmer, In a certain light (Con cierta luz) won the eSe8_LAB 2023 Creation award from out of all the projects participating.
Thanks to this award, the filmmaker was able to travel to Victoria (Australia) to work side-by-side with two of the global leaders in experimental cinema, Richard Tuohy and Dianna Barrie, in their NanoLab facilities.
Whereas Agnès talked about how she delved into the physical dimension of film and light, hereNicole describes her research into the other physical dimension of cinema -motion- and how, as her practice progressed, there was a gradual revelation of the way she herself relates to the environment and portrays it. Don’t miss this interview, which captures a unique expeience in this field..
